Gently is probably Douglas Adams’ finest creation. Untrustworthy, unscrupulous and possibly unhinged, we’re never too sure whether he solves his cases by genius or accident. Stephen Mangan (Green Wing) brings a scruffy lunacy to the role that somehow evokes both Philip Marlowe and Tom Baker. Which, frankly, is probably exactly what Adams had in mind.
